Mandir direction and size for a home: a simple guide

Direction

Many families follow the traditional advice of placing the mandir in the north-east part of the home, with the person praying facing east or north. Not every flat allows this. If yours does not, a pandit or Vastu consultant you trust can suggest the next best option. We build whatever position you decide on.

Height and clearance

Idols are usually placed so that they are at about chest height when you stand, or at eye level when you sit to pray.

Leave a gap between the diya platform and any carved panel or ceiling. We usually build the platform with that gap included.

Avoid placing a mandir against a bathroom wall or under a staircase if you have another option.

Size for a small flat

A wall-mounted unit around 2 to 3 ft wide is enough for a family set of idols. Drawers below store samagri so nothing sits on the floor. For more idols or a family that prays together, a corner unit or small pooja room gives room to sit.
